1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND 

    Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) is a prestigious technical university located in Melaka, Malaysia. Established in 2000, UTeM has rapidly emerged as a leading institution for higher education in the fields of engineering and technology. It prides itself on its commitment to producing skilled and innovative graduates who are equipped to tackle the challenges of the modern world.

    UTeM offers a comprehensive range of programs across various disciplines, including engineering, computer science, information technology, and management. 1.2 BUSINESS OPERATIONS

1.3 THE NETWORK NEEDS OF THE ORGANIZATION

    As a university that excels in computer technology, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka's networking can be said is still not in the par compared with the other high-ends universities which provides excellent networking system for entirety of their university's complexes and faculties. One major issues that might lead to the discrepancy of the existing networking system is due its outdated system. The system has been here for a long time and has not been updated to the newest and latest options which is much faster compared to the older system. Since UTeM is expanding each day, more facilities and devices might be added in the future, and those devices may or may not be able to connect or utilize 100 percent of what the system is capable for. Thus, a new system that has high level scalability is needed to fullfil the older and even the newer (future) system that will be implemented. UTeM's networking system must take few aspects into consideration such as its security, flexibility, cost handling and even the scalability as said earlier.
